What are the CCCA (Vic) CGD Ministry Internship Grants?
The Church Growth Department supports churches seeking to grow and develop their people and ministries through internship type programs. Such programs usually are characterised by:
• The church and the intern make a commitment to each other for mutual benefit
• Practical ministry involvement is offered under the supervision of a pastor or other suitably qualified person
• The practical experience is supplemented by some form of formal study (eg Bible College subject(s), distance education, Youth Dimension internship etc)
• The intern will be meeting their own education costs but in order to make ends meet will usually need some form of paid employment
An Internship Grant gives a church the opportunity to pay the intern so that instead of working a casual job, the church can benefit from the intern’s paid employment and gain greater benefit from this process.
Who qualifies for CCCA (Vic) CGD Ministry Internship Grants?
Any of our Victorian churches may qualify for a Ministry Internship Grant, assuming that:
a suitable person is identified by the church leadership
there is a genuine fit between the intern and the ministry needs of the church
the church develops a documented strategy for the internship program that includes:
• A formal description of roles
• A mechanism for regular review by the Church (including a review at least twice yearly with the eldership or leadership) and feedback
• A commitment to develop and sustain prayer support for the intern
• Measurable outcomes
the intern commits to funding the cost of external study
the church matches the Church Growth Departments funding
the church handles the employment responsibilities including PAYG tax, Workcover and superannuation
How much is a CCCA (Vic) CGD Ministry Internship Grant?
The maximum grant will be $8,000 per annum which equates to approximately one day per week at the rates below
• The hourly rate of pay should be in the range of $16-$20 per hour (as of October 2009 – this shall be indexed in line with CPI) and in setting the rate due consideration should be given to the financial position of the intern (eg dependants to support), age and skills.
What are the selection criteria?
Applicants must describe how their project will:
• increase the ministry capacity of their church; and/or
• benefit the intern in the medium and long term
How will applications be assessed?
Applications will be assessed using answers to the questions on the Application (Attached)
What are the funding conditions?
The following conditions will apply to projects that receive a grant:
• The grant recipient must enter into a funding agreement with CGD that sets out the conditions and reporting requirements.
• The grant recipient must spend the grant funds as described in the application.
• The Internship must start and finish in the agreed time, unless a different timeframe is agreed with the CGD.
• The organisation must provide a simple one page summary of the outcomes, and a statement about how the funds were used.
