RELIGIOUS EDUCATION in SCHOOLS:

Christian Brethren Fellowships in Victoria have had an on-going involvement with the CCES over many years. We have membership on the Council which carries with it the responsibility to support the work of the Council financially by means of an annual subscription, payable through the Secretary of the Association, Mr Geoff Whittaker.

A number of our local church members throughout the State are taking religious education classes (CRE) in schools but there are continuous openings for more teachers. There has also been the introduction of Chaplains in schools more recently and this also is another way of impacting upon our young people via the school system.

The 2004 Annual report indicated;
 Over 150,000 children in Victorian State Schools received the classroom benefits of Christian religious education (CRE)
 CCES was able to place CRE teachers in over 72% of Victorian state primary schools
 An estimated 50,000 adolescent school children were given support from a CCES chaplaincy program operating in a school.

Free, interesting Bible studies are mailed every month encouraging adults, young people and children to open and read the Bible for themselves. Each student is linked with a Christian teacher who marks the lesson and dialogues with people as they explore the Bible and grow in faith. There are six levels of lessons to suit all ages and the main lessons are also available from the website. It is coordinated by a committee.

As well as providing follow up to Showgrounds Evangelism, this facility also helps local churches stay in touch with contact families who may be moving away. Some fellowships and camping ministries find it a ready made system of follow up for their church camps and children’s programs. It is financially supported by churches and interested individuals.
